Two motorcyclists were arrested on Friday after they were caught speeding on the N1 South, said the Johannesburg metro police department.

The first motorcyclist was caught driving his BMW motorbike at 271km/h in a 120km/h zone, said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

"He failed to stop for officers near Maraisburg," said Minnaar, adding that the bike was without number plates.

"Little did he know that there was a roadblock about 3km further down on the freeway."

The man was arrested and charged with reckless driving and failing to stop for officers in uniform.
