Controversial jockey Chad Schofield faces an entire summer on the sidelines after a freak fall at Geelong on Sunday.

Doctors at the Geelong Hospital were examining the 20-year-old and it appears likely that he has a compound fracture of one arm, and has broken the other arm.

Schofield fell from Classic Charm in Sunday's Briseis Cup at Geelong. Those trackside feared the worst for the former David Hayes apprentice.
