Is it ethical for a jockey

To contact strangers from the turf directory offering them graft in exchange for presents...

Morning,

I had a very disconcerting phone call yesterday, from a Joburg-based person who represents jockeys/work riders. They would pass on 'good things'. I would place bets and share profits with them.

I've never had involvement with unsavoury aspects of racing, so it was bit of a culture shock. I played along to hear where it was going, but this is not my scene at all.

Been going on for 100s of years,the only people that don't know about this is the stips.

One of the oldest tricks in the book.

Always involves middle of the road on the way out jocks.

Report it to the Jockey Club investigator

It happened to me some years ago ,and when I told them to piss off ,they threatened to injure horses I had an interest in!

Was just about to say it would be naive to think this practice didn't happen. How else would you explain betting coups when after the race the trainer, in the interview, will say it was not stable money :blink:.

It is unethical, those are usually the corrupt jockeys that make these offers 'tips for money'

If there is no rule specifically forbidding the practice, then yes it's ethical.

I even know off punters that phone people and act as jockeys,but that was years ago,but it still possible.

It has been going on forever. How stupid are these people that contacted me, one day many moons ago, they tipped me my own horse. :woohoo: :lol: Told them to take a sexual walk....
